From the Middle Ages, the city of Chalonnaise has kept an important architectural heritage. In the 17th and 18th centuries, magnificent half-timbered buildings were built in "appareillage champenois", a typical masonry method of the region alternating brick and chalk, which makes the architecture of the city absolutely unique. Peaceful gardens, waterways and canals add to the charm of this little sparkling Venice, which has a foot on each side of the Marne river and whose rich heritage and history can also be discovered during boat trips along the water proposed by the Tourist Office
