There are cities where history is so present that it is enough to take a step to switch to another century. Guise, the main town of Thiérache, is one of them. The city of the dukes, founded in the 11th century, became a stronghold of the kingdom and then one of the most elegant in Europe during the Renaissance period. The castle is the perfect example of the city's history. Today, its fame is due to André Godin, an industrial pioneer with the first cast iron stoves, who realized a social utopia: the Familistère. Guise is also a must-see in the region: Les Ducales, an incredible medieval festival that is well worth the trip.
