Vaylats is a small village on the Causse whose land was cultivated as early as the 2nd century BC, and which was occupied by an oppidum before the Roman conquest. Although the seigneury of Vaylats is attested to in the 13th century, the current village was not built until 1470, around a castle that was completely destroyed during the French Revolution. In the 19th century, the site was used to build the convent of the Daughters of Jesus, now administered by the Jean Liausu Association. On the Vaylats hillock or "Pech de la Pauze", the highest point in the commune, you'll find a panel describing the geological features of the area.
