Situated in the north-east of the department, the commune of Budelière has a fascinating history. Occupied since the end of the Neolithic period - as shown by the ruins of the old dolmen at the Chavadis site - it was for a long time attached to two former parishes: the two Châtelet. The first, the Châtillon d'Entraigues, was located at the confluence of the Tardes and the Lascaux stream, while the second, Châtelet-Landré, was attached to a rocky spur between the Tardes and the Châtelet stream. Heir to this past, the commune of La Budelière is in comparison quite recent. From 1905 to 1955, it enjoyed international fame thanks to its gold mine. Nowadays, Budelière is a city-museum, one can still observe vestiges of this activity and the installations which facilitated its development.
