Occupied since prehistoric times, the site has undergone significant development since the Gallic period thanks to its location at the crossroads of several ancient roads. It was in the 19th century, with the development of thermal cures, that the town grew. It has preserved its important Gallo-Roman archaeological heritage and its Second Empire architecture.
