Standing on its promontory, the 13th-century Château de Murol watches over the town. A true medieval town, Murol was also home to many painters in the early 20th century. On the side of the peaceful Parc du Prélong, where you can stroll in the shade of trees from all over the world, some of which are over a hundred years old, is the Musée des peintres de l'école de Murol. The center comes alive with markets, garage sales and historical festivals, and the terraces of restaurants and bars fill up quickly. There are plenty of hiking trails, and one of the paths allows you to walk to Lac Chambon and take a dip in the middle of summer.
