Halfway between Les Angles and Formiguères, Matemale is a typical mountain village at an altitude of 1,500 meters on the Capcir plateau at the gateway to a vast man-made lake. A veritable "Little Canada", in winter it's a sporting destination, with dozens of km of cross-country ski trails criss-crossing the Matte forest on the edge of the lake. Nordic trails, groomed and marked snowshoe trails... which in summer become popular with hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers. Supervised swimming, a nautical base, tree-to-tree courses, bike rentals and much more await you around the lake.
