At the gates of the Cevennes, Saint-Jean-de-Valériscle is a charming village still impregnated by its mining past. Its houses, preserved since the Middle Ages, are intertwined with their communicating cellars to form a rampart. Narrow streets and vaulted passages lead to the center of the village surrounded by its Circulade where you can find: a Romanesque church destroyed during the religious wars and restored in the 17th century and the 13th century castle of Barry (private) which was used as housing for the miners. The museum of coats of arms (about 700) also exhibits costumes and weapons. Trails and forest paths lead to Notre Dame des Oliviers
