The name of Mirepeisset has a very surprising etymology, it means "look at the fish", in Occitan. According to a local legend, a local winegrower was suspected of mixing his wine with the water of the Cesse, but no one had the proof... One day, one of his barrels fell from his cart and broke under the eyes of the villagers, the wine spilled and a small fish appeared... proof of the presence of water. Then one of the villagers cried out, "Mira Peixet!" (Look at the fish!). This pretty little village near the Canal du Midi, on the banks of the Cesse, in the shade of the trees of the Garenne, offers a pleasant stopover.
