Long a place of pilgrimage dedicated to saints Como and Damian, the village was first mentioned in the 12th century as Sanctus Germanus. But its past is certainly much older. Saint-Germain-sous-Doue is located near the Butte de Doue, which overlooks the village of the same name and has yielded remains dating back to prehistoric times. This highest point, atypical of the area, is sometimes referred to as the "Phare de la Brie" or "Lanterne de la Brie". A small village indeed, but not lacking in hiking opportunities or legends, some of which claim that Joan of Arc stopped here..
