Possessed by Chagnéric, father of Saint Fare, founder of Faremoutiers Abbey in the 7th century, Pommeuse, whose name means "Bridge over the Morin", became a parish in the 12th century. 4 châteaux were built, one replacing the other, reflecting several centuries of history. The first allowed the lord to tax those crossing the Morin. The second was damaged during the Hundred Years' War, while the third was destroyed during the French Revolution. The fourth, still inhabited, dates from the 19th century. Today, Pommeuse boasts an exceptional walking trail on the Grand Morin, preserving the natural environment.
