Dammartin-en-Goële boasts a long history, as well as appearing in a number of literary works. Among its attractions are two listed buildings: the 11th-century church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste and the 15th-century collegiate church of Notre-Dame, built by Antoine de Chabannes, Count of Dammartin and comrade-in-arms of Joan of Arc. But the town's streets are full of other surprises: remarkable houses, a 17th-century well, a 13th-century tithe cellar... all witnesses to a sumptuous past. As for its 11th-century fortress, dismantled by Richelieu, it once overlooked the town from the esplanade known as the Château.
