The birthplace of painter Louis Joseph Bahin, Armentières-en-Brie, mentioned as early as the 12th century, takes its name from the Latin armentum, meaning "place where large livestock are raised". Like other communes in the area, its activities were in fact agricultural. Today, Armentières-en-Brie still boasts large areas devoted to these activities, as well as the Montceaux state forest, which is ideal for hiking and borders 3 other communes (Montceaux-lès-Meaux, Trilport and Germiny-l'Evêque), and fine monuments: the Romanesque church of Saint-Germain and the Château d'Armentières, former residence of Blanche de France (1328-1393), the last representative of the direct Capetians.
