In the 1930 s, Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon was still a small rural village on the banks of Seine ("Gravenchon" would be the country of "gravel", which was still in abundance on the river bed). But since the establishment of the Esso and Mobil refineries, the city (nicknamed the «city of oil») is known as one of the main industrial cities in the valley of the Seine. However, Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon remains very concerned about its environment. It has developed a beautiful park in the valley of Télhuet, a valley whose wetlands are maintained by five bœufs of Scotland, rare animals in Normandy and which, on their own, deserve the park's visit. As for industries, they are now part of the landscape. We forget them (the smell is not too annoying) or better, they even find a certain charm: climb the coast at night, and by curiosity, take a look at the industrial area, with scattered lights and his ceaseless activity… You will almost feel like having New York at your feet!
