The commune was born in 1822 of the four villages meeting: Vescles, Boutavent, Rupt and Chenilla. The place was already occupied by men in the bronze age, if the objects discovered in the mounds in the vicinity were believed. He was still in the Middle Ages, as witnessed by the ruins of the castle of Oliferne. The territory of the commune rises up to 807 metres, at the peak of the peak of Oliferne. Other high points, in Rupt and Boutavent, have viewpoints. The water (Jonzac!) is omnipresent in Vescles through Ain, Reach (or Sainte-Dove), Red-Red Creek, Pre-Bois, and Le Reach-au-Loup. Near a bog, there is even a rare species of crayfish with white legs. A nice corner for fishermen and nature lovers.
