Saint-Julien is located in the extreme southwest of the Jura. The seigniorial domain dates from the 12th century, part of the Chalons family's property, until 1884, when the Lezay-Marnézia family died out. The stained glass windows of the church (1508), registered in the MH register, form one of the most important sets of windows in Franche-Comté. There are many shops and important services, including a famous Comté cheese factory. There are many opportunities for hiking in a protected area (Natura 2000). In 2017, Saint-Julien merged with Louvenne, Villechantria, Bourcia forming the commune of Val Suran. The villages of the valley offer many possibilities of discovery.
