This small village of 62 inhabitants is named after a balme, that is, a cave. In fact, two caves are located on its territory. The first looks a little like the cave of Lourdes and has been a place of worship for centuries. There was a burial of the th century and pottery. This religions celebration has become a Marian shrine where every year a pilgrimage takes place in August. The other cave is located a little higher on the left. Christened the "shrine of the Tenacious Grange", it was inhabited from the Neolithic era. One can see an old altar on which an incurable priest celebrated, secretly, religious ceremonies during the Revolution. In addition to their, role, these caves testify to an underground network frequented by speleologists. Those who prefer to see things high can climb at the lookout by borrowing the small road from La-d'Epy to Villechantria. The view of the Suran valley is superb.
