In the north of the Jura vineyards, 4 km from Arbois, on the edge of the RN83, Montigny-lès-Arsures is a small village entirely devoted to the exploitation of the vines. The church, classified as a historical monument, dates back to the 12th century, and one of the two castles dates back to the 15th century. Henri IV is said to have stayed there when he besieged Arbois in 1595 during his war against the Spaniards. Louis Pasteur owned a vineyard on the territory of the town. He used it for his experiments on the fermentation of grapes. Dear wine lovers, you should know that more than 70% of the Trousseau (a local grape variety) is located in this village, which is rightly called "the capital of Trousseau".
