Tumulus were discovered in several places in the Orgelet region, but the necropolis of Chavéria is probably the most interesting. Seventeen tumulus were excavated in the 1960 s and then between 1999 and 2003. The objects studied by archaeologists, especially swords, bear witness to the way of life at a pivotal time: between the bronze age and the iron age (850 to 50 BC). The surrounding area also hides sanctuaries, vestiges of the Gallo-Roman era. We can see in the village traces of medieval times: A stately monastery, and close to the town hall, a typical old oven covered with flat stones.
