At the gates of Saint Amour, at the entrance of the Remote river, Balanod has long experienced an energy-related activity of this creek. There are mills from the Middle ages. A walk on the banks of Besançon makes it possible to take an idea of the industrial activity of the past: mills, forges, mills, battoirs… and especially marbreries. Because the stone of Balanod, a marbrière limestone that is still used, has been a valuable resource for the region. Around 1863, Pierre Mourlot bought a mill in Balanod and transformed it into a marble that involved the development of the region. The current Marble-Artaud marble, héritière of Pierre Mourlot, is still active at three sites in Balanod and Saint-Amour. In the centre of Balanod, a house built around 1907, decorated with Medallions, sheltered the employer's housing and the offices of this company.Other illustration of the importance of water in the village: three fountains, still in service, and four washing machines.Dependent until 1869 in the parish of Saint Amour, Balanod had only a chapel built in 1628. Enlarged in 1869, it became a beautiful church. See also: a beautiful, classified stone cross, erected in 1687 in honour of Pope Jules II (1503-1513), who was prieur not far from there in Gigny.
