5 kilometers south of Pontarlier, on the N57 towards Lausanne, La Cluse-et-Mijoux is surrounded on one side by the Château de Joux and on the other by Fort Malher (dating from the 19th century). A visit to the château is a great way to learn more about the town's history, or take a walk up to Fort Malher for a panoramic view of the town and its rugged terrain. The town is also criss-crossed by numerous hiking trails. Keep your eyes peeled! On these mountainsides, chamois love to roam, even very close to the road. A nice surprise could reward your patient observation (camera recommended).
