It is the economic and commercial capital of the Haut-Doubs region. Its rich historical past can be seen in the town center and the Château de Joux, just a few kilometers away. World-renowned for its absinthe, it is also the second-highest town in France (837 meters). Pontarlier has enormous tourist potential, with a "four-season" offer of natural surroundings dotted with lakes and forests, sporting activities and local gastronomy. It is the powerhouse of the Massif Jurassien. It's also the ideal starting point for exploring the Upper Doubs and neighboring Switzerland.
