Vouzeron is located 12 kilometers south of Nançay. At the time of the collapse of the Spanish Republic, which provoked the Retirada, important arrivals of Spanish refugees took place. Between January 30 and 9 February 1939, 3,002 Spanish refugees fleeing to Franco's troops arrived in the Cher. They are sent into four convoys at Bourges station. Vouzeron Castle, owned by the CGT Metallurgists' Union in the Parisian region, is lent by the union by solidarity to host these unfortunate comrades. Refugees, mainly women and children, are subject to strict quarantine, due to the risks of an epidemic. The mail is limited, the supply, if not varied and cooked French, is insured. In the spring and summer, the refugees leave Vouzeron to be regrouped at the Châteaufer camp (in Bruere-Allichamps commune). The castle, listed as a historic monument in 1995, is part of the tourist attractions of the municipality.
