Crossed by the Berry canal, Vierzon lies at the gateway to two very typical regions: Sologne, with its forests, moors and ponds, and Berry, with its valleys and vineyards criss-crossed by peaceful streams. The town was the scene of the Wars of Religion and was crossed by the demarcation line during the Second World War. Today, you can take a walk on the Butte de Sion (the castle's feudal mound), which offers a lovely panoramic view. The remains of the 9th-century ramparts and the 12th-century belfry are still visible in town. The town's timber-framed houses and Notre-Dame church are also worth a visit.
