Plumelec is named after the foundation of a parish by Saint Maelog. The town still bears the remains of a cairn of 35 m in diameter, the megalithic remains of a set excavated at the end of the last century. Plumelec houses the castle of the family of Cadoudal, famous chouan chef, and was a place of Resistance: the old vent of the Skunk served as an observatory to the German army. Today, the city is dedicated to tourism and has a beautiful architectural heritage. Moreover, thanks to the calvary of Callac and the cross stations built between 1950 and 1958 on an old slate quarry, Plumelec is also a place of pilgrimage frequented.
