Questembert boasts a wealth of 15th and 16th century houses and, above all, halles (covered market) dating from 1552, whose remarkable listed roof structure alone is well worth a visit. They were completely renovated in 1997. They are the only remaining ones in Brittany, along with those in Le Faouët (Morbihan) and Plouescat (Finistère). The history of the region is very interesting: having preserved their independence thanks to Nominoë's victory over the Franks in 845, the Questembertois also repelled the Norman Vikings (888) and were able to enjoy a peace that enabled them, three centuries before the rest of France, to emancipate the serfs.
