Wihr-au-Val is the only locality in the canton of Munster to have an appellation contrôlée area for the production of Alsace wines. It was first mentioned in 896 under the name of Bonifacii Villare. Its gate-tower, a vestige of the medieval walls, was rebuilt after the bombings of June 1940. The church of Saint-Martin (1873), the 15th-century ossuary chapel of Saint-Michel and the early 18th-century chapel of Sainte-Croix are also worth a visit. From the latter, a footpath leads to Kìnderbrénnla, the "children's fountain" where, according to legend, storks came to collect newborn babies and bring them to their happy parents!
