Santa Marinella is very popular with Romans for its beaches, making it a popular summer getaway. Easily accessible both by car and by public transport, it's the perfect place to cool off on a hot afternoon in the Roman capital. The water is clear, but most of the beaches are private - so you'll have to pay for a beach umbrella and deckchair. There is one small free beach, but it's quickly taken over, especially in August. In our opinion, Santa Marinella is much more pleasant out of season, when the lidi give way to stretches of sand.
