The small town of Oberammergau charms visitors with its pretty, flower-filled chalets whose facades are painted: here trompe-l'œil, there biblical scenes or fairy-tale motifs. The town is all the more charming for its cobbled streets lit by pretty lanterns. But the town is best known for a show it puts on every 10 years: the Passionsspiele. Since 1636, the town's inhabitants (because only people born here can take part in the project) have been creating a show depicting the Passion of the Christ, which attracts 500,000 visitors to this small town of 5,000 souls.
