Berwang is a small family resort ideally situated between the Zugspitze peak and the Lechtal valley. At an altitude of 1,336 m, the 12 lifts provide easy access to the slopes. In summer, numerous hiking trails start from the village. The small village is home to around 600 year-round residents. The village's name probably comes from the combination of the word ber (from Bär, bear) and wang (meadow). The town's emblem features a bear. The first ski lift was built in 1949 and, thanks to tourism, many farmhouses were converted into holiday accommodation.
