Rousay is located in the northwest of the Mainland. The island has been nicknamed the "Egypt of the North" for its many archaeological sites. There are more than 160 of them, including the famous Midhowe Broch, a very well preserved Iron Age fort. It is open to the public. On the way there, you will pass three cairns, the Taversoe Tuick, built on two floors, the Blackhammer Cairn and the Knowe of Yarso Cairn. The island has beautiful beaches: Nousty Sand (Saviskaill Bay) is a large stretch of fine sand, Noustiger (or Lopness Beach) has a breathtaking view of Egilsay Island...
