The "queen of the islands". You can reach it by ferry from Kirkwall (Mainland) in 1h30. Discover the ruins of Notland Castle (16th century), the neolithic dwellings of the Links of Notland Prehistoric Settlement, the Knowe o' Burristae Broch, the Viking site of Quoygrew or the Westray Stone, a rock sculpture found in a grave at Pierowall. Noup Head is also an RSPB reserve which hosts an 1898 lighthouse, gannets, razorbills and guillemots. The cliffs of Castle o'Burrian & Stanger Head are very beautiful. The Westray Heritage Centre in Pierowall will teach you all you need to know about the area.
