On the south-eastern slope, the Calamita peninsula is the oldest territory of the island. Mount Calamita rises to 413 m in the heart of a natural reserve. This region, which is extremely rich in magnetite (from the Greek word magnes, magnet), has given rise to many legends. The metallic parts of the boats were inexorably attracted by the ore, which caused countless shipwrecks against the cliffs of Punta Calamita. Magnetite disturbs the compass needle. Experience it for yourself! In addition to its mining history, this peninsula offers exceptional sea beds. We understand why Jacques Mayol fell in love with this remote area.
