A huge unorganized territory of over 30,000 km2, it begins just north of Baie-Comeau and ends at the Manicouagan astroblem south of Gagnon. Route 389, which connects Baie-Comeau to Fermont, crosses the entire territory. This is where huge hydroelectric structures were built as part of the Manic-Outardes project, including the Daniel-Johnson dam, the largest multi-arch and buttress dam in the world. Rivière-aux-Outardes also offers a dozen outfitters for hunting or fishing, the Groulx Mountains for long wilderness hikes, and the Uapishka Station for admiring the northern lights.
