The town's name pays homage to Napoléon-Alexandre Comeau (1848-1923), a North Shore trapper, geologist and naturalist of Acadian origin. Apart from that, Baie-Comeau is primarily a stopping-off point for visitors to the Manic-2 and Manic-5 dams, and for those wishing to take the Expedition 51° tour to Labrador and the Lower North Shore. We recommend a stop at Pointe-Lebel, where you'll find magnificent beaches with dunes and boardwalks. In Baie-Comeau, the Boisé de la Pointe St-Gilles is sure to please hikers (11 km of trails) and beachgoers (Champlain beach).
