At the foot of the Karwendel mountains, the village of Stans is a good base from which to explore this nature park, the largest in Tyrol. Around 8,000 people live here year-round. Lucerne is 20 minutes away by car or public transport. Close to the city center, hikers can continue along the Wolfsklamm Gorge trails to Tratzberg Castle in Jenbach. Hardened hikers can take on the Stanser Joch, a moderately difficult climb, with the promise of being rewarded at the summit with a spectacular panorama of the Achensee.
