7 kilometres south of George Town, Rolle Town is a typical Exumas village, where farmers make a living growing onions, mangoes and bananas. It was once owned by a Loyalist, Lord Rolle, who bequeathed the land to his slaves, making it impossible for them to sell or seize it. The village inherited the name of its former owner and many inhabitants still bear this surname. Historic tombs dating back to 1792 bear witness to a past that is finally not so distant. You can find three of them in a small clearing, which date back to the time of the Loyalists.
