Located 130 miles south-east of Nassau, neighbouring San Salvador, Cat Island, beautiful millenniums, stretches 80 km long for 6,5 km wide, in a north-south axis. This small island was the lair of the English pirate Arthur Catt, who would have buried treasures there. Renowned for its beauty and tranquillity, this island of Robinson, one of the most beautiful of the archipelago, is a haven of tranquillity, punctuated by hamlets of fishermen and farmers, dominated by small small churches. The ruins of ancient plantations and houses, dating back to the th century, are still apparent, as well as traces of Indian cultures that have not yet been uncovered by archaeologists. More fertile than its neighbors, the island has collines hills, dense pine forests and miles of beautiful beaches and absolutely deserted. Cat Island has three titles of glory. It is proud to host the highest summit in the Bahamas, Mount Alvernia, which culminates at 63 m above sea level. On the other hand, she prides herself on seeing the actor Sidney Poitier who was the first black actor to be a winner. This illustrious child of the country, now residing in Nassau, is the Ambassador of the Bahamas to UNESCO. Finally, the island is famous for its inventive musicians who play with imagined instruments from hijacking objects. The improvised'n scrape'band meets with a lost bar on the weekend. The Music Festival, the Cat Island Rake and Scrape Musical Festival, attracts amateurs every year in June.
