Located 25 km south of Governor's Harbour Airport, Tarpum Bay is probably the most charming village in Eleuthera. It borders the sea and charms with its lanes lined with pretty wooden houses in pastel colours. The streets are criss-crossed by goats, more numerous than visitors. Tarpum Bay is home to a small cultural centre and the ruins of the old castle built by the eccentric Lord Mc Millan Hugh, a Briton who made Eleuthera his small kingdom. The castle can still be seen from the Queen's Highway, but is not open to visitors. Fishing and subsistence farming are the main economic activities in Tarpum Bay.
