The village is named after an English admiral who fought in the American Revolution. On the outskirts of the village are the ruins of the imposing Deveaux Mansion, an austere two-story building. It was the main residence of the former cotton plantation of American Colonel Deveaux, who was awarded the land as a reward for his successful raid against the Spanish in Nassau in 1783. Heading south to Greenwood, a beautiful sandy beach displays all its shades of blue. If you stay near the village, you'll find a small store with everything you need and can even walk to the Greenwood Beach resort for a drink.
