Surrounded by a ring of coral reefs, Rum Cay is away from any tourist activity. The island has been battered by hurricanes that have destroyed the thin economic activities that revolved around salt. Port Nelson, on the south coast, is the only inhabited place on the island. The village consists of a few houses and shops, a police station and a post office. The rest of the island is uninhabited "bush". The accommodation possibilities are reduced to the renting of apartments or villas. Very beautiful fishing activity in perspective and for diving or snorkeling the island/national park of Conception Island is only about 15 km away.
