North of the province of Cáceres, Pasarón de la Vera, a hamlet of 650 inhabitants declared well of cultural interest, unveils 602 meters of altitude among the mountains of Tormantos. Although high in a territory formerly occupied by ancient civilizations, some Celtic remnants or the remains of a former shrine dedicated to Jupiter updated on Plaza Espana, it is in the midst of Reconquista that the village develops. Pasarón de la Vera preserves today an historic aspect conferred by its stone buildings, its hermitages, its parish tower, its fifteenth century church and its narrow alleys paved with timeless charm. The emblematic Palacio de los Manrique de Lara, which dominates the city, was built in the sixteenth century under the impetus of Garci-Fernández Manrique de Lara, counselor of Charles V, in a Renaissance style probably inspired by his trip to Italy to attend the coronation of the Emperor. According to legend, it was in this palace that the love between Juan de Austria, the illegitimate son of Charles Quint, and Magdalena, descendent of the Manrique de Lara, was born.
