In Jaraíz de la Vera (6,500 inhabitants), as in the rest of the region, the famous La Vera paprika is produced, a variety that has a controlled designation of origin (D.O.). It can be mild, sweet, or piping depending on the type of pepper used. The importance of this "red gold" in the region is such that a museum is dedicated to it on the Plaza Mayor of Jaraíz de la Vera.The other treasure of the commune is its famous natural pool El Lago, formed in Pedro Chate Gorge. Its fresh and crystalline waters are a delight in summer.
