Christopher Columbus gave the name of this small village to one of his discoveries. Located in the foothills of Las Villuercas (province of Cáceres), it is a historic hamlet of less than 2,000 inhabitants with cobblestone streets and houses of traditional architecture, famous for its 14th century monastery dedicated to the Virgin. The religious building is enclosed in a strange fortress decorated with belfries. With the conquest of America, the devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe spread to the New World, making this village a place of Christian pilgrimage. Information: Tourist Office - Plaza de Santa María de Guadalupe, s/n.
