10 kilometers north of Merida, the Cornalvo Natural Park is a place to relax, walk, hike and discover the fauna and flora. Hundreds of species of birds, mammals, reptiles and fish are found in a setting of oak forests, pastures and lakes. Every year the park welcomes white storks, and especially black storks (threatened with extinction). There are also many Roman remains, such as the dyke used to supply water to Merida, which is still in use today, as well as ancient Roman roads. It is possible to walk or cycle through it.
