Just north of Detroit's city limits lies Ferndale, in Oakland County. It's probably the nicest town in Detroit's northern suburbs. Good places are springing up like mushrooms, especially along Woodward and 9 Mile Road. Cafés, restaurants, microbreweries and boutiques of all kinds line the streets of downtown. A few pretty murals also brighten up the walls, and the public art circuit is available on the Downtown Ferndale website. Finally, the city is renowned for its large LGTBQ2 community, which proudly displays its colors, especially during Ferndale Pride in June.
