The fact that this mysterious area is still kept secret by the US military doesn't help to silence rumours of extraterrestrial life in the region. While some swear to having seen UFOs flying over the area, the government has never denied these claims and continues to keep its mouth shut. Renamed the Extraterrestrial Highway, the road that runs alongside Area 51 is the livelihood of the region's only hamlet, Rachel. An outing made for those who have never missed an episode of the X-Files series (1993-2002), but, for the others, the road is likely to be long, hot and disappointing, since no visit to the site is allowed. In July 2019, a viral invitation to invade the site launched on social networks sent shockwaves through the US military. More than a million people said they were ready to enter the most secret and mysterious military base in the United States. "Let's go and see these aliens", read the message on the event, which was open to the general public. Fortunately, the instigator of this bad joke admitted to having created the page for fun and likes, with no real intention of carrying out his plan. Despite a priori "delirious" fantasies about UFOs, the Pentagon has clarified that there is indeed an American program designed to analyze extraterrestrial threats. This announcement rekindled conspiracy theories about Area 51 in 2017.
