It is one of the oldest settlements in the country. It was attacked by James Wolfe's troops during the siege of Quebec in 1759. You will not fail to admire its beautiful old houses along Royal Avenue and near the Blondelle River. You should also see its beautiful little church in the centre of the village. Built in 1779, it is one of the oldest churches in Quebec and houses works of art including gilded sculptures by François and Thomas Baillairgé. Saint-Joachim is also an important migratory stop for snow geese, which makes it a favourite place for birdwatching in the spring and fall.
