As the country's administrative capital, Belmopan is home to a number of ministries, all built from concrete, which has helped the city win the prize for the world's ugliest capital several times over! It's true that Belmopan's appeal lies not in its architecture, far from it. In fact, there's not much of a crowd in the capital, which has a population of just 16,000, many of whom work for the administration. But a few good restaurants have opened recently, and a culinary stop-off may prove pleasant if you're passing through the capital. But there's no need to make a detour if the city isn't on your itinerary.
