Yell is the first island north of Mainland, the second largest island. It is a sanctuary for island wildlife, with many fields of wild flowers. It is covered with 215 km of moorland and heathland, surrounded by beautiful white sandy beaches. The island can be reached in 20 minutes by ferry from Toft (Mainland) to Ulsta (Yell). While staying in Yell, take a tour of the Old Haa Museum. This museum tells the story of local history and island culture through many artifacts from the past. It is open every day except Friday, from April to September, and admission is free. Another cultural site to discover is The Shetland Gallery.
